Inner work produces outer results. The deeper you go, the greater and more permanent the results are. Core work makes life easier to live–because every little thing won’t trigger you, and you get ahead in life.

“What Will People Think” patterning is one of the deepest and most destructive patterns, along with the “Doing Something Wrong” and unworthiness patterning about the child’s identity in the world.

A part of the punishment patterning “What Will People Think,” patterning sways individual consciousness away from the child’s truth and their true identity. The child grows up thinking they need to be someone who they are not. Often, the child grows up never knowing themselves, but rather a false identity that they mature and defend. False identity is a mask. It covers the true self from the outer world.

For example, a young boy mimics his father, the local Dentist. When the boy grows up, he becomes a Dentist to please the father and be more loved by the father. While never allowing himself to explore his own self-identity.

Every day from the moment you wake up to the moment you lay back down, you live your life caring what other people think of you. “What Will People Think” patterning began when parents felt they needed to impress others and live a different way from their own self for approval. Our parent’s identity became important by what other people thought of them.

I know it sounds silly here, but it’s a very real set of belief patterns that many people live out, even today. Think about it—why are there HOA (homeowners associations) or landscapers. Here’s the pattern, what will others think if the grass is longer than the neighbors—other’s and the outer world’s judgments against you is often too great to bear.

Awakening Path

On the path to awakening, we learn to let go of the ego’s identification of “what others think” and guide self-acceptance inward to the inner self vs. the outer. “What Will People Think” patterning along with unworthiness often stops people from moving forward with career goals and success.

“What Will People Think” holds self-criticisms, self-hatred, and lack of self-awareness, anger and fear in it.  It’s the patterning that created the idea of masks to hide true identity. It’s a very unconscious set of beliefs and the fabric of who we are. The patterning holds so much weight in how expressive we are in the world.  It is part of the core patterning of feeling worthy, loved and accepted in the world.

How the Pattern is Experienced

  • I have a reputation to uphold
  • Fear of being seen in the world
  • Fear of being exposed
  • Fear of being identified or singled out
  • Anger is projected at the mother and others as blaming the outer world as the source of hurt and bad choices in life.
  • I have to be different from myself to be loved and respected to fit in
  • Fear of interacting with other people
  • Do things to get other people’s approval
  • Fear of living life
  • A perception that everyone dislikes me and my work
  • What do other people think of me
  • Everyone dislikes me and my work
  • Fear of being truly me in the world
  • Fear of being liked by other
  • Fear of being loved and opening the heart

It’s the pattern that either permitted us to be true to ourselves or not.
